I put down the book because it seems like I'm missing things. There are back stories alluded to from previous books, but I don't want to go back and read all of them just to get that "Ah-ha!" moment... I'm giving it another try.

While the premise is intriguing, I think the author got mixed up on "show, don't tell," and that's why every detail is expressed via dialogue.
