Poor fellows stricken by mysterious poxes and suspected of being vampires were unceremoniously unearthed: showing the signs of their satanic affliction, their bodies were mutilated or staked Of course, those wielding the stakes- and the horde of spectators that would invariably amass- also came into contact with the plague-ridden corpse and soon became infected themselves.
