Status Updates From The Major Works

Tennyson in a letter on the birth of his first son - "I have seen beautiful things in my life, but I never saw anything more beautiful than the mother's face as she lay by the young child an hour or two after, or heard anything sweeter than the little lamblike bleat of the young one." so sweet!

Enoch Arden was SO SAD!! Loved it but man... so sad...

In Memoriam A.H.H. - A moving elegy exploring the depths of grief, what it means to live and love, friendship, our relationship with the natural and the Divine... it was a little long and meandering at times and I felt like the grief journey was almost idolized to a degree which didn't sit well with me, but who am I to judge how someone grieves? Not a favourite poem of all time but moving nonetheless!

"These mortal lullabies of pain
May bind a book, may line a box,
May serve to curl a maiden's locks;
Or when a thousand moons shall wane

A man upon a stall may find,
And, passing, turn the page that tells
A grief, then changd to something else,
Sung by a long-forgotten mind."

I loooove these verses. Beautiful way Tennyson's describes his poetry.

"I hold it true, whate'er befall;
I feel it, when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all."

Back at it! Started "The Princess: A Medley" which is a long narrative poem and I'm loving it so far!

So many of these poems are inspired by Greek myth, I wish I had a stronger understanding of a lot of these stories. Tennyson is definitely making my interest in mythology sky rocket!

Just read the Lady of Shalott a couple weeks ago... why not read it again?? 😂
