Day 7ish: End of part 2. We have been progressing! I decided to hold off daily notes until I had completed On Commonwealth. I would simultaneously myself overwhelmed with info and unsure what to say. Still enjoying Hobbes' investigations. His specificity at each step is both a struggle and a masterstroke. My feelings have not settled yet, need to see where this goes... final review will probably be extensive.

این بخش از کتاب آنچنان جذابیتی ندارد ولی لابه‌لای سطور نمایی از حکومت دینی مدنی دیده میشود.

هر چه جلوتر رفتم کم‌تر با هابز هم‌نظر شدم. تناقض بزرگ هابز اینجا است که طرح جامعه‌ای غیرآرمانی ریخته؛ جامعه‌ای که مبنای آن شک و بدبینی به انسان‌ است. ولی در عین حال به روشنگری و «تفکر عمیق» هم باور دارد. و در تمام بخش دوم بین این دو در رفت و آمد است. تنها نکته‌ای که تا حدودی به آن امید بسته بودم محدود کردن لویتان خودکامه با تبصره‌هایی از حقوق انسانی است. اما تنها تا حد کمی در انتهای فصل به آن پرداخته شد

تمام شالوده‌ی سیستم هابز بر بنیان ترس و بدبینی ساخته شده. از این بابت به هیچ وجه اندیشه رهایی‌بخش نیست. چگونه همچین دولت مقتدر و خودکامه‌ای قادر به بقا است؟ جایی که اجتماع اتباع و احزاب نامطلوب و غیرقانونی است؟
تقریبا با همه نکات او مخالف بوده‌ام. فصل ۲۱ تا ۲۲

Day 4: At 2.23. In this second part Hobbes has settled into speaking specially of political philosophy and the nature of power and stability. This is closer to what I expected, but with a deeper approach because of the unique investigation into human understanding in part 1. Having seen the table of contents, I am surprised what is teased to come, but enjoying the middle of this live wire of terrifying potential.
