Really interesting read as I continue going through! Easy read on the plane and compelling narrative style. The reunion with his mom is wonderful!

“If anybody had the patience to do it, the complete poems of Pablo Neruda could be reconstructed from the scattered verses written from memory on the fence board by lovers […] The fence tried to push away from the earth, wood creaked at the joints […] and one had the impression that the whole world was trembling with all the love sown in the garden of that house”.

Really powerful description in these past few chapters. I am particularly moved by the depictions of Allende and Neruda living on through their work and peoples’ memories.

Very well written tension in the interaction with the carabineros! Also incredibly evocative description of those who stayed in chile also being exiles.
