Status Updates From La Chanson de Roland

Most of the chansons de geste are forgotten now, except by scholars — Guillaume d’Orange, Raoul de Cambrai, the Quatre Fils Aymar, Girart de Viane, the field of Aliscans — who remembers their names? — But the horn of Roland still sounds through the Pass of Roncevaux —

Dieu! que le son du cor est triste au fond des bois.

*God! how sad is the sound of the horn in the heart of the woods.
