Justin has put himself in a dangerous position twice now. He’s a rebel, but I think it’s bc of what his father had been accused of. He didn’t believe it, most of the time. Max showed the love he has for his son after his wounding post duel. Lysette by his side all the while, comforting him & Philippe. We still haven’t learned the truth about Corrine’s murder. The Spainards don’t trust Burr.

Lysette and Max are married! I love her relationship with her new family. She is still trying to learn more about Corinne, and her demise, much to the Vallerand’s chagrin. They’re attending a ball for Aaron Burr, and ran into Etienne Sagesse in the courtyard. It seems to have put a damper on their lovely evening.

Lysette got sick, and Max ended up taking care of her. He saved her from certain death, as well as her stepfather, and Etienne Sagesse. I now know that Max’s widow, Corinne, was murdered; for which he was given blame. Nobody believes in his innocence, other than Lysette. He was gentle and kind to her in her time of illness.

I’m not confused anymore. I’m excited to see where this goes!

The prologue was interesting, but after reading it and jumping straight into the story, I was a bit confused. It’s been an okay read so far.
