That was quick. So out in the bush the former pseudo-fiancé, out of the blue, without any lead-up took her hand and kissed it. In the same breath he gave her an earful about how during the recent Mau Mau Emergency one of the labourers Kamau justifiably beheaded an alleged intruder at the boat launch with a panga and brought the head up to the big house to show it off and celebrate. I am not happy about this book.

It’s a rough read. All the suspects are furious, highly vocal, argumentative, manipulative, exploitative and disrespectful of the superintendent of the police. Everyone is explicitly hostile and rude. Really, the only thing to do in real life in such a situation would be to move away, leaving one’s coordinates with the police, of course. I’m expecting a rough sex scene or two between the former pseudo-fiancés
