This prose is awfully purple, and I hope the author goes more into the American Civil Religion

I've barely started, and already my hackles are raised. I like the alliterative antithesis of "berry picking was a higher crime than bankruptcy." However, focusing solely on the pursuit of wealth leaves out other ambitions that may drive people and shape their definition of success (and thus, also shape their definition of failure).

So. We'll see.
