I haven't listened to this guy's TED talk or anything, but I could see this helping kids feel like they have more freedom.

I wanted to note one more thing in the status updates. My bff from school rebelled hard. Harder than I, even.

I do think her parents being overprotective contributed. Sure I had rules, but I had enough freedom where I didn't feel as strong a need to rebel. At least that hard.

I skimmed through. It was okay.

I went with her to a 3 week camp during the summer. We would be traveling out of state, flying on an airplane by ourselves for the first time.

She had a break down in the airport when we couldn't find the terminal at first (we eventually found it).

She's now v. adventurous, independent. But in young adulthood there was some hesitance in doing things on her own

Her parents never allowed her to walk by herself, even though they lived on land with woods too. I went with them to camp (they had a camper) and suggested we take a walk. We were gone for a couple hours.

Her parents were furious. They thought it was super dangerous. They grounded her after that.

We were 16.

I'm realizing how "dangerous" my childhood was reading this. My mom taught me how to drive @ age 9, my dad taught me how to shoot a gun @ age 5 (I disliked both, the gun was loud, hurt my ears. The driving scared me).

I enjoyed walking by myself in the woods behind our house. What's crazy is I was allowed to do that by 5 years old. My ex bff who lived down the street?
