Everything I really latched onto is a smaller facet of a piece of work that is entirely indicative of its time and almost certainly a product of the 1960s complex relationship with artificial insemination and the entirely incorrect fears and concerns over the practice that were really just a way to be terrified of the "end" of the nuclear family and people not having missionary sex.

Meh, going to be real and say this is the type of old, survivalist, hard science fiction that these days just starts to feel like a slog to me when none of the characters feel like they're anything more than vehicles for the question, "wouldn't it be fucked up if this happened?" I needed to have encountered this when I was younger and was fascinated with stuff like Alas, Babylon and a Canticle for Leibowitz.

10 pages in and we have a nostalgic childhood tale. 10 more pages and we have climate collapse. 10 more pages and we have cousin-fucking. Books really can do it all.
