Not sure what to think. Very readable prose, but the author is biased towards religious history. Some great tidbits (the Roman era Irish were slave traders!) here and there, but it is mostly about Augustine and St. Patrick so far. Not really sure if he is ever going to defend his title thesis. Also, the 19th century British dehumanizing hatred of the Irish is truly shocking!
