This chapter was interesting, but I feel it didn't need so many details about Nadar.

Chapter 3 was very interesting, though I feel like the environmental inequality was caused primarily by poverty, with racism being a secondary inequality. The author did a decent job of explaining this in the summary, but not throughout the chapter.

This chapter was much easier to read, though I reread the book up to this part a d feel more maps could help explain the introduction and first chapter.

Required reading for a masters course on environment and disasters.
Slow reading, there's a lot that could be better explained by including more visuals. Also lots of quotes from original 1800s documents, which is great but their vocabulary includes words and phrases we no longer use. Also, lots of geographic specific vocabulary, so if that's not something you use regularly there is some difficulty.
