1863 seems pretty small & after watching the PBS show for 1863, see that a lot was skipped over. Even the battle of Gettysburg was pretty brief... Nothing about the November Chattanooga battle or the Gettysburg address. Nothing about the draft & NYC draft riots. Nothing about the new black soldiers...

Finished section 3 & then episodes 2 & 3 (1862) on PBS documentary...

Finally a map like I have been wanting on page 168!!!

Read through part of chapter 10 & then watched first episode of PBS show from 1990: the Civil War a film by Ken Burns. Both have different things they share & the visual was helpful & lacking in this book.

Number of missing periods.

Should really have more maps. Maps of the states and where different bases, forts, etc. are located would be so helpful.

Maps of different battles are lousy. Maybe color would have helped or something??

Chapter 4 is the hardest for me to understand. I have heard of a few of these ideas, but mostly foreign. Probably one of the reasons all the details of different battles never meant much to me...

Part 2 - the art of war is like a foreign language to me. I got the supply lines thing - read enough books to have “seen” it... so many other terms are beyond me....
