Very personal and inspiring, windows of writing and description. Can see the beginnings of many of his main themes take place in one story.

From my understanding, this was written in English, translated into Japanese, and translated into English again... checks out.

I like it so far for being the 1st book Murakami wrote (and for it being the 1st in the Rat tetralogy). Still, reading Murakami's later work and then reading this gives me a bit of whiplash.

After getting half way through with A Wild Sheep Chase, I felt the need to stop reading it and read the first and second books in the tetralogy first. I was lucky to get an English copy of Hear the Wind Sing and Pinball 1973 fairly cheap!
