Status Updates From Improbable Remains: The Biz...

Admittedly I almost dnfed the last story. Something about it just made my head to into screensaver mode. Maybe it was that something about the narrator and narrative felt like an injoke or reference I am not aware of. Maybe it was that the theme felt uneven again and the pacing off? 2/5

10th story was dull though oddly not in a thoroughly bad way. An early story in this anthology had Watson mention how many cases aren't made public due to them being all talk with little happening... which is exactly what this story is a lot of talk a bit of action thar feels off and more talk, without much of an actual conclusion. Good idea, but quite, well, dull. 1.5-2/5

Story number 9 was just dull. Lotsa of explaining without anything happening and once something did happen it was jumbled and rushed, without an interest in telling a story, left alone a mystery. Why this was done as a Holmes story is beyond me. 1/5, maybe even 0-0.5/5.

Story 8 is another solid read that, as The Entwined before might have fared stronger without the supernatural element. Also it's fairly easy to guess early on what's going on. 2.5-3/5

story 7 is a solid read, but remembering my own research on chimneys of the time spoiled things a bit as I'm not certain it would even work

6th Story: 2.5/5 not bad but not great either, some wonky phrasing and the plotflow felt a bit off (as in some actions seem to be there to stretch the wordcount)

5th story (Best laid plans) bored me, to be perfectly honest. Another otherworldly one, but rather eh. 1/5

A 4-4.5/5 for the fourth story. Good plot, and refreshing to see queerness as topic without things being made an exploitative spectacle.

Third Story is solid, with the downside being some bits read a bit redundant. 2.5/5

Second Story was not to my taste. While I do like stories where Holmes has to face the supernatural I feel this one might have fared better with a mundane solution. 1/5

First story was pretty good, though I kind of doubt that Holmes would not have heard about any such event before? Sure, the man has no interest in the solar system, but this kind of grotesque strikes me as something he'd find relevant to his work. 3.5/5 for this one.
