Hmmm, I saw lots of less than glowing reviews about this book, but so far it is much as I expected. Plenty of Victorian cliches, a murder and some dubious characters. The writing is a little heavy on the attributive adjectives maybe, but the plot is jogging along nicely.

Just read where the elixir is found in a casket with a infinity symbol in gold leaf; two pages later when presented to the Bishop it is an Infinity symbol in silver leaf. Sloppy editing and poor attention; I am finding this book weaker and weaker as it goes. I do not think I shall move on to the sequels at all.
