Status Updates From Mahu Surfer (Mahu #2)

This part has me going "what?". It feels like two separate narratives are happening, but we're being presented with one. Kimo suspects an old aquaintence but states he has to put his feelings aside to actually look into said aquaintence behaviour.
When we as the reader have been given another narrative that isn't contradictory but runs parallel and is setting up a different scenario that isn't matching

I found it a little telling how some yt gay men realise rape but dance over the fact that that's what it is. At the point in the book he meets an old "friend" who raped him, and he acknowledges that it was predatory behaviour but insist that it's his "cop" side that is bothered by it...um what?
