I didn’t realize this story was set before World War II. Reading how the author depicts the war—and what happened to my country—brought back such deep sadness. It’s painful to think of everything Filipinos endured under the Japanese occupation.

aww the title make sense to me now, ”She’d offered him trust, had given him pride again, and enthusiasm at the break of each new day. She’d share her children who’d brought new dimension of happiness into his life. She’d brought back his smile.”
