Was not expecting this book to open with the line “Hannibal’s Carthaginian army”

I don’t really like the cover of this book. Some of the later ones in the series have better covers. I decided I wanted to read the first in this K.A. Applegate series but then ended up buying 12 (out of 14) of the books. I hope I like it! Still too early to say… I guess it’s not blowing me away immediately, though.
