I love the piece about dressing appropriately which used the word "slattern" in context. :P Also, the time of authorship is quite clear when he warns of deaths caused by the vanity of corsets being laced too tight! This is much more enjoyable than a modern book on Christian character. :)

The exposition on the famous text from 1 Corinthians on "charity" was eye-opening and convicting. Charity, or Christian love that "does not rejoice in iniquity" means so much more than merely feeling sorrow over sin. It also extends to the way we are meant to overlook our fellow Christians' faults. Warns against the dangers of religious hypocrisy with consistent references to scripture. Elegantly written.

Excellent elaboration on the fruits of love, and the scriptural allegory of the tree with roots in the riverbank. Beautiful imagery, without bogging one down. I loved the charge to read God's word, not as a way to further our opinions, but with a sincere and open heart, to learn the truths of God, even if it means letting go of a previously supposed understanding.
