Without guilt, we missed the beauty of being loved. Through guilt, the heart confronts behavior, in turn, exposes the state of our hearts. Although guilt is never about the worth of a person, it certainly can be a voice of confrontation about the condition of that person's heart, whether healthily or impaired. It offers the opportunity to face truth and change.

A gift of shame is that it keeps us from worshipping ourselves and our giftedness. We recognize our gifts and are grateful for them. We remember that we are more than our gifts and that we will never escape our natural inferiority: " i'm not a king or queen. I'm royal, but fulfilled only as a servant."

Rage is another impaired expression of fear. It results from refusing to face our fear of vulnerability. Rage is a psychological expression that defends against vulnerability by disconnecting or denying true fear.
Rage and anger are not the same thing.
Rage rejects the fear of having desire, anger is an acknowledgment of the depth of our desire.

Darkness isn't what the child fears so much.
He fears being in the darkness alone.
Vulnerability to need, once it has been rejected, becomes the object of fear. But in place of facing our fear through relationship, we grow anxious for control over our fears.
Darkness then becomes the problem, when originally not having vulnerability honored was the real problem.
