So the whole thing about saying men fight because of women contradicts the previous sentiments of "soldiers vote because they understand and sacrifice for the needs of the many" because that means that no, soldiers are just as self-centered and self-interested as civilians.

That's because if you don't know what you're fighting for you are either a machine or without morals. It is not natural to fight just to fight or because someone told you to.
