The kids run into townsmen who act strange around them, then they go to the Theater. Jim wants to stay but Will is freaked out. They find a carnival poster and then head home.

They meet this salesman who warns them a lightning bolt will strike Jim's house and provided them a lightning rod. This rod has ancient scriptures and letters on it, making it suspicious. Once the salesman left, Jim and Will decide to put the rod on the house.
