What a pleasure to read... Clark's deep knowledge and intelligence, which he wears so lightly... This book is the print version of a television show -- and is not too demanding... but it is lovely... For the first time I am learning to understand Ingres and David... who Clark sees (along w/ the likes of Piranesi) at the roots of the Romantic...

wonderful book

a nice... cooperative read. excellent selection of pictures that are well integrated into the text and that nicely illustrate Clark's thinking -- only drawback is that they are black & white. PIcked up this for $2 at a library bin, and almost tossed it away.... glad I didn't
