It never explicitly states the year, so this gives me a good idea of when it takes place- likely the 60's. Also the mention of commies, which the book is heavily centered around. A good start.

I don't remember which music friends recommended I read this, but it's got me reliving some of the big emotions of my own pre-teen years!
