I love that Anne chose Brother Sympathy for the Sunday Interlude. Sympathy is what a teacher needs most. Some kids are in such distressing situations and pity can leave them mired in the mud. Sentimental and false sympathy can leave them confused or justified in staying stuck. Sympathy communicates that we understand and care. The lever lifts them up and points them to resiliency.

Day 22 Anne does several delightful things. She has been quoting from 1 Corinthians 13 which is perfect. She points out that Brother Kindness has a short memory because he does not remember what he does. She phrases his kindness as giving people the benefit of the doubt. You get what you expect and sometimes assuming kindness will bring it out even when it’s not there originally.

Day 20 Since the greatest of these is love, it makes sense to use each day of the week to focus on countering each of the seven little demons in monk’s clothing, sneaking a little pitch-fork out from under their cloaks to annoy people.
