lol now that the action is over we are back to worldbuilding. but wait?! i thought the culture was a post scarcity society and here we have one cgaracter using money to procure illicit services and goods. hmm. i'm going to need to research more. i looove this book lets hurry up and get back to the eldritch odd cosmic horror artifact stuff!

wowwwww! we finallyget some action! we get our first "on screen" death its not too violent or awful but banks isnt known for that. lots of "off screen" sex some of the characters are really annoying but thats ok from what i remember on past reads their parts arent overly long and they grow some. the one alien race"the affront" are delightfully cruel and loathsome but i like them for being fresh.

hmm this book is more dense than i remember and the thot plickens steadily. i love the little glimpses at life in the culture that we get plus its history and those very mysterious glimpses of the ineffable that this mysterious excession object gives us! such a masterpiece! RIP iain m banks! you were are and are GOATED!!!!

wooowwwww! i havent read this book since 2014 and oh my goodness there is so much more to it as a 46 year old vs a 34 year old! its such a shame banks passed on. his worldbuilding and plots were chef's kiss! this book is exactly as i remember!soooooo good!
