"All young people know that feeling. And to many it remains the most poignant pleasure that they are to know - that thought of "the party to-night," that wonder "what may happen at it!"

"But, even as she smiled, she felt that pang which is supposed to be known only to the man who sees his chosen pal prepare to be 'married and done for.'"

Ranting aside, this book really demonstrates the "woman's" perspective about the start of WW1 and it is utterly fascinating.

STILL NOT OKAY WITH THE STRANGLING. Or non-strangling? Attempted strangling? Play-acting strangling? WHATEVER I AM NOT OKAY WITH IT.

Good heavens, the hero goes from wanting to touch the heroine's curls to wanting throttle her...and not in a 'enemies to lovers' way or anything. He just thinks that sounds like a good plan. 5 stars to this book if the innocent young man turns out to be a serial killer.
