Status Updates From Willeford

I'm about done with this book. The next section is the bibliographical info with Don Herron's asides, etc. I really like Don Herron - as a writer of this enormous volume and as human being. He's damned cool.
The interview is the best part of this book almost. You have to read the biography that forms the majority of the 1st 2/3rds to appreciate the interview section. Very funny stuff here. 89 stars coming soon.

This book is divided into two sections. The first section is all biography with Don Herron featured prominently since it was Herron and Dennis McMillan actually revived interest in Willeford's work. The second half I started today is a series of transcribed tape recordings of Don Herron (and his wife, and Willeford's wife Betsy) and Charles Willeford just shooting the jive and searching Willeford's garage for gold.

Just finished the section on Willeford writing the 4 Hoke Moseley novels.
Reluctantly at first, then ... he has revelations about his art.
Don Herron is so damned devoted to Charles Willeford ....it's such a touching saga. Further on down the line ... a must-own for any Willeford devotee.

While working as an instructor in a college creative writing course, Willeford “hung a near life-sized portrait of Ringo Starr” in his office. This was in 1964. Hard to rectify Willeford with Beatlemania.

This is amazing! Don Herron has Willeford expound on the Ross MacDonald conspiracy. A couple of sharpie book critics were responsible for elevating MacDonald to Raymond Chandler/Dashiell Hammett status(!)-stunning info at least for me.

Got this from my wife as an anniversary gift. She knows how much I'm devoted to Charles Willeford. No idea how she found a seller. This isn't all that easy to find. Started it tonight after holding off for several months (since November). This is really fascinating. Enjoying it very much, thank you.
