These last chapters feeling like a slow-moving nightmare. Every conversation feels dangerous and every second Lutie stays somewhere too long got ME stressed OUT😬

She’s trying so hard to hold onto dignity and independence, but the environment keeps treating those things like they don’t belong to a Black woman trying to survive alone.

Mr. Jones being in Lutie’s apartment with Bub is beyond creepy 😒🚩 That’s a straight violation of her space and privacy, and everything is starting to feel unsafe😨

Mr. Jones is getting creepier by the minute 😒🚩 The way he watches Lutie and inserts himself into her space is uncomfortable—nothing about him feels right😬

The landlord is already giving weird, off, unsettling energy 🚩😒 I don’t trust him at ALL and I know Lutie can feel it too.

The stereotypes projected onto Black women already got me irritated 😒 The assumption that Black women automatically want white men is absurd🤨. Lutie just trying to survive and mind her business😏

5% into The Street and Ann Petry is WRITING 😍 The descriptions are so vivid I can see, hear, and feel every inch of Harlem. The atmosphere alone got me hooked 🙌🏽

I don’t want this book to end! 😭
