This story is very dark and depressing, but now our hero pretends to be someone else to catch a helicopter flight to an oil rig in the north sea to find his lover.
That is so incredibly romantic and powerful. He'll end up fined or in jail, but damn nothing's says I love you like that.

Ah this book ended too fast😭 I need more of Aaron and Matt🤧

He loved me, always would. But he couldn’t live forever in the subculture. He wanted kids. He wanted someone to take home who wouldn’t make his mother cry and his dad’s face turn apoplectic purple. Basically, he wanted a girl, and over the past two years he had found, wooed and won one. Joe had walked out to get married.

A bit of a brutal transition after a gory historical, but I like it so far

The last 60% of this book was blessedly less make-the-readers-heart-crushed-pulp-and-also-maybe-a-stomach-ulcer. I’m rounding my rating of 3.5 stars up because there were parts of this story that reminded me of Alexis Hall’s writing, which is pretty damn impressive. The ending was a bit abrupt but still worked. I also would have liked some closure of Matt on his career but I’ll take the HEA with Aaron any day.

Aaron asking outright for consent and making sure Matt is sober enough to give it is like... lovely in general but particularly in light of the recent shit Matt has been through. And which Aaron doesn’t even know about

God, the people in Matt’s life are utter garbage. They don’t even qualify as friends
