This book really surprised me the further I went along. I found it's quite difficult for me to read a historical science book and not forgot it's contents after a week or so but this is the outlier. Page 283 especially is sticking with me, really making me re-evaluate ideas on scientific legacy and credit.

Probably my favorite section of this book is the several chapter buildup and POV changes to conclude in evolution being introduced to the public by Darwin's publication. What a journey.

Was not expecting this but this book is making me feel so depressed about how naturalists started out as selfish white men treating wildlife and POC terribly 🥲🥲🥲 Also just how Christianity influenced just the thought process of these dudes acting the world was for them and them only????
