Status Updates From The Mark Experiment

On the anointing at Bethany: "it is not hard to see why this extravagant act of love is so important to Jesus. He has come to Jerusalem to perform the most extravagant act of love the world will ever see: he will die on the cross for our sins. And, surrounded as he is by the hatred of the leaders and the incomprehension of his friends, this one woman's love must have meant so much to him."

"There is another difference that is often overlooked. The word 'fathers' is missing from the second list... while the disciple needs substitute brothers, sisters and mothers in the family of God, she needs no fathers."

Andrew said at the beginning this wasn't meant to be a commentary, but idk man, there's some pretty great and enlightening observations in here. I can imagine myself coming back to it in future.

"Only Mark's Gospel includes the detail that Jesus looked at them all before rebuking Peter. It could be that Peter never forgot this and passed the memory on to Mark. Jesus, by looking at his disciples, is reminding himself that his friends can never be forgiven if he refuses to die. His love for them is what gives him the strength to go to the cross."
