Oof! That section on Mallarmé was a beast. Currently feeling like Derrida and the recently read Alan Watts were both struggling with the same thing in a fashion: the gap between what is inside us humans and how we get it out in terms of symbols/discourse. A type of translation takes place or a transcription that can never be more than a mimicry, a simulacra, several times removed from the referent.

I haven't read this book for more than I decade because I was going to read all the lit mentioned in it first. Hahaha! Younger me had such funny expectations.
