My new goal in life is to have a garden full of chess tables and board games that the neighborhood can use as a community center.

I can tell we’re getting to the philosophical turn of the book, I’m looking forward to it. In addition, a niche genre I’ve found is “books about interacting with the platonic ideals,” and this book satisfies that itch.

The book has become more of a character study than a straightforward narrative. I still believe the shifting frame stories at the beginning of the book hinder it more than help. It does hit its stride when delving into the main characters past.

Not sure how I feel about the shifting frame stories. I’ve always enjoyed a frame story within a frame story, a la Frankenstein, but this is more frame stories that are tangential in their relationship rather than layered.
