Reads very similarly to George Eliot’s omnipotent narrator in ‘Mill on the Floss’ and their character-driven social commentary. Reads more satirically of course, probably because of Oliphant’s past lighter work but I’m enjoying it! Highly recommend for fans of Victorian literature.
