I love this kind of book because it’s really pushing me to see my biases and how quick I am to judge. I don’t like Okonkwo-I don’t like that Achebe does not (or has not) told me the name of Nwoye’s mom. But I also respect Okonkwo and ekwefi. It’s so hard to disentangle my 2020s western “morals” from my read of the book-and not “look down” on the society. And I’m also so fascinated by the culture!
