Not the paranormal mystery adventure I was hoping for and too much about family dialogue that tries too hard to be dreamy and witty. I loathe the fowardness of the eldest Sister, Cristobel, especially with her Dad. I wonder why the kids call him "Jack"? The novel is very slow, containing only this banter I have little patience for until nearly 100 pages. Maybe the titular trio of "tricksters" will get intriguing.

This copy has terrible errors/typos that change the original meaning of passages found in my original copy! One particularly annoying bit: Where a character says 'take off our hats' instead of the original 'take off our heads' (a very important signpost in the story). Eeek. I pity the person who hasn't picked up an earlier copy of this book that I love :-(

“‘Have I made love with a ghost?’ / Felix smiled. / ‘It’s what writers do, isn’t it?’ he said. ‘Make love with ghosts.’”

not to sound like a boomer but they really don't write books like this these days and I miss them. this 70s-80s aesthetic where important things happen square in the middle of paragraphs instead of in 5 separate single-line paragraphs. I love important things that happen square in the middle of paragraphs, and authors who are confident enough to let them happen there.
