I like how they showcase different perspectives and don’t glorify one side

I'm really glad I read the little chapters on Mao Tsedong and the Long March as I knew next to nothing about either. I think it's really interesting that Mao is still beloved by some Chinese people;. I'm used to hearing him spoken of as practically Satan incarnate. There are always more sides to a story!

I've learned so much. This book barely scratches the surface but it is showing me areas I need to learn more about. And boy do I need to watch a lot of movies!

I've only read 6 pages but I already learned why bats are good luck in China. Seeing them always makes my day but I don't think they've ever brought me money...🤔

However, as court cases and newspaper accounts of the era prove, even when it was obvious that a Chinese herbalist was technically running an illegal practice, all-white juries refused to convict him. Such was the case of Dr. Ing Hay [...] who was credited with curing one boy's blood poisoning, saving all his patients during the flu pandemics of 1915 and 1919, and providing cures for meningitis.

... when many Chinese men were asked by Western reporters if they ever felt like "beating up a gay man," they responded with outright shock: "Why would I want to do that?"
That is a weird af question to ask someone.
