Status Updates From Selected Writings

The selections from Johnson’s periodical writings are a little skimpy, but are usefully arranged by topic rather than strict chronology. I would have preferred a sampling of Johnson’s poetry instead of yet another reprinting of that tedious novel Rasselas. But it does what it promises: it provides an introduction to Johnson’s style and to the range of his thought.
