Status Updates From Told by the Dead

3.5/28.5:8. Previous Tenant. Throughout this book I’m finding Ramsey’s style more difficult to penetrate. It may be my mood or it may be that he was particularly impenetrable at this stage. Not a bad story though when it emerged from the tangle of the prose.

4/25:7. Never To Be Heard. Not entirely satisfying but a very interesting premise.

2/21:6. Facing it. Trivial stuff.

4.5/19:5. The Last Hand. Bizarre and original story, even by RC’s standards. May repay a re-read to look for signs of what’s going on. Assuming “real world” logic enters into it!

5/15:4. Little Ones. Beautifully developed dread. And a bizarre conclusion - all the more horrific for not being conventionally (gorily) horrific.

4.5/10:3. Agatha’s Ghost. What RC does best, blurring the lines between mental decline and the supernatural.

2/ 5.5:2. Twice by Fire. Ramsey on unusual territory and I don’t think it really works. I don’t think the concept was hard to spot and it’s not clear whether we were supposed to know the nature of Lee early on. Disappointing.

Return Journey. 3.5. Not one of his best, maybe lacks a little logic (logic from a weird tale 🙄😂) but still a cut above most horror. Typical Ramsey.
