Finally got my wish with some action scenes but they weren't that great. Also, Violetta is just so dull and sensible compared to some of her ancestors. I get it but really thought she was going to give in and compromise her morals for a sec and I'm disappointed 🤣. Also lol at the blip in the pan drama around Lady Anne or whomever ... Were we really supposed to be worried about her? Pointless ...

Overdue for a good wartime action scene besides the same old spy theme we had in the WWI book. Also, can everyone leave Vi alone and stop meddling in her love life! Let the woman live, damn!

I don't understand the point of having this pages-long confession from old Mr. Tregarland. He didn't say anything we didn't already know. And if it was just supposed to plant the idea that Vi might marry Gordon, YA ALREADY PLANTED IT

This is thankfully picking up now that we're past the tedious recap of Dora's time with Jacques and bla bla. We even got a sex scene (or what passes for one in these books), the first one in quite a while.

I guess Dorabella is supposed to be the latest Bersaba- or Carlotta-style character, but there's no comparison to those sirens. And I really didn't need this lengthy of a recap of her ordeal in the last book; we know most of it already. And gee I wonder if Jacques could possibly be a Nazi spy. Guess Dora will figure it out on the last page of the book or more likely her sister will and Dora will be so shocked.

This book is billed as a sequel to the previous book. This may seem like "duh" but these books were never really promoted as a series that I've seen ... Just books by Philippa Carr. This book continues the story of twins Violetta and Dorabella which is a major departure from the estab. pattern, hence the sequel marketing. I'm a little sad to almost be done with these, but glad to finish books I've had for so long.

Interesting, while I understood there were only three Hibbert books published posthumously and this wasn't one of those, this one is copyright 1993 "by Mark Hamilton as Literary Executor for the Estate of the Late E.A.B. Hibbert"

Last book in the series! Let's do this thing. Although with the way my work schedule has going, it might take me at least as long as The Gossamer Cord.
