3 years previous, in the Chapter 1, a Books & Cafe, third grade Becker saw a box with the writing, "Apply here for the best job in the world" - and take the "Seemsian aptitude test". Becker filled it out. He is accepted!
Months later a man gives him a packet and he goes to the address. He enters the In-Between - a rollercoaster of a ride "tube" of unimaginable speed and excitement for Becker.

Story starts out with a family needing it to rain, to save their crops, the farm. Becker, 12 years of age, is the youngest Briefer, which would lead to being a Fixer - who have a 7th Sense. He's working with Cassiopeia Lake, a Major Fixer, twentysomething - a living legend in The Seems. Say Frosty - a saying of the Fixers. Becker was a typical preteen living in NJ, who felt he was missing "something" in his life.

Great black and white graphics. Los of interesting gadgets are shown. I listened to the audio book when it first came out. The first Disclosure agreement paperwork is interesting. Basically, telling the reader, in very complicated lawyer speak, that no one reading this book should share the information contained within! Funny and informative. Preface is equally amusing.

Becker Drane has his "dream" job. He is part of The Seems - he world responsible for making our World work. Departments in weather, time, dreams, and sleep are all manned by very special people who have to hide from the "outside" world. Becker is a Fixer - when something goes wrong - a Glitch. A mechanical breakdown or The Tide- an underground org. bent on destroying The Seems, and taking over the World.
