Status Updates From The Four Seasons of Brambly...

Perfect for the Advent, this wonderfully represented the cozy season.



I wish we had snow like the little mice had! *lol* But there's more:

When the snows are lying deep,
When the field has gone to sleep,
When the blackthorn turns to white,
And frosty stars bejewel the night,
When summer streams are turned to ice,
A Snow Ball warms the hearts of mice.

According to the calendar, it's been autumn since Sept 22nd, 8:19pm (in Germany). For me, the beginning of October usually marks the true beginning. The weather, funnily enough, also decided to be autumnal early this year. After the summer heat, I'm so here for it.



In this story, little Primrose is having an adventure that ends up being a bit spooky in the end even.

The very first sentence could be considered prophetic:
It was a very hot summer.
Yes, I'm afraid it will be. I feel like lying down next to the pond and dipping a foot in would be a great idea. :)

I'm continuing my seasonal reading and since it is March now (and therefore officially Spring, for me), it was time to start this classic of children's literature.

So here is


We follow an adorable community of mice through the 4 seasons so I'll read one "book" (chapter in this collection) every 3 months.

3rd book of the serie "The Autum of Brambly Hedge" is a story about how you shouldn't go and wander off by yourself.
That's what our main character of the story, Esikko, learned today, in the autumnal and stormy forest. She wandered by herself through the woods, visited elderly couple for tea. But before she knew, it was dusk and she still wasn't home. Luckily family found Esikko, and she was relieved to get to bed.

2. book of the serie, "The Summer of Brambly Hedge":
Now Jill Barklem focuses on (Finnish translation) Vuokko Unikko's and Aimo Jauhiainen's wedding.
Vuokko is a dairy-mouse by profession and Aimo is a baker.
The preparations take few weeks to do, and the wedding, in which Vanha Peltomyyrä inaugurates them, takes place on the Middlesummer.
Everyone has fun and dances a day, until Vuokko and Aimo leave for their home

1st 25 pages is a biography of the author, with great pictures of book's characters, and then we get to stories.
Spring of Brambly Hedge has a story of a mouse that's called Vesa, in translated version. He has a parents, called Isä Omena and Äiti Omena.
It's Vesa's birthday, and the animals of the Hedge throw a surprise party for Vesa, that's disguised as a ordinary picnic. All goes well, and nothing drastic happends
