Incredible prose that makes one pause and think about lives of native people of Antigua ( or any other small, post-colonial island). Fiery and angry ( and she has every right to be), Kincaid doesn’t sweeten the pill and lays it out for the reader as it is.

A lot about your vacations - how you approach deciding where to vacation; slavery of course and modern day slavery and modern day “rubbish” as Kincaid call them.

Tourists suck. This book hits hard. She leaves no stone uncovered telling tourists to Antigua what she really thinks of them/us.
