Such an interesting take on 1Cor7. I pretty strongly disagree with his interpretation of “the gift of singleness.” I tend to agree with Allberry on this issue, as there are a lot of (I think dangerous) implications for how single Christians think and live if they are single (by God’s providence and sovereignty), yet they don’t feel that God has granted them this special gift of singleness Danylak describes.

While I appreciate Danylak’s thoroughess, I’m not sure about a few of his conclusions. He is right that marriage is temporary in light of eternity and no longer necessary for the individual to be a blessed member of the covenant community. However, in highlighting the goodness of singleness, Danylak unintentionally diminishes marriage and family and makes it sound like singleness is a better or higher calling.

This is really interesting so far. A solid, covenantal walk-through of the storyline of Scripture, particularly tracing the inportance of marriage and offspring throughout. This is a really interesting approach to the topic of singleness that I’ve not seen before, and so far it is very good. I’m curious to see where Danylak lands in his conclusion/application.
