Fascinating! I never considered before how revolutionary the bicycle was—it changed women’s clothing too. Flora talks about how the early bicycling women stopped wearing as many petticoats.

The Summer Holiday chapter was delightful!

There were fried ham and eggs, cakes and scones and stewed plums and cream, jam and jelly and junket, and the table spread in a room as large as their whole house at home, with three windows with window seats in a row…No wonder Mr Partington’s wife could never get him to set foot in the parlour” (138)

Wow wild what a difference the bicycle made! Instead of walking seven miles to town, one could bike in half or less than half the time!
