Every other sentence or section feels like a slap to the face: "One of the greatest challenges of the spiritual life is to receive God's forgiveness. There is something in us humans that keeps us clinging to our sings and prevents us from letting God erase our past and offer us a completely new beginning. Sometimes it even seems as though I want to prove to God that my darkness is too great to overcome."

I underlined so many quotes in this second chapter because they all pierced my heart. Here's one: "Only when I have the courage to explore in depth what it means to leave home, can I come to a true understanding of the return. (...) "In the context of a compassionate embrace, our brokenness may appear beautiful, but our brokenness had no other beauty but the beauty that comes from the compassion that surrounds it."
