Imam al-Ghazali mengumpamakan al-Quran seperti lautan luas yang didalamnya penuh dengan mutiara dan permata. Imam al-Ghazali menyinggung sikap sebahagian besar orang Islam yang hanya bermain di muara, dan tidak ada usaha menyelam ke dasar untuk mendapatkan mutiara dan permata dari al-Quran.
